Gunshots during New Year's celebration!!!

Just when you thought this property does not get worse!!

A few minutes ago, we witnessed gunshots were fired randomly to celebrate new year's outisde building E! This is a very very dangerous place to live. There is no security officer, the gate to the apartment complex is wide open with no security device. Its only a matter of time before another murder occurs on the property.

  • This message is to the person who made the fraudulent comment about the persons shooting guns on Sunday night Monday morning. I am an Atlanta Police Officer; I live and work on the property. THERE WAS NOBODY SHOOTING GUNS OFF AT THE COMPLEX!!!!!!!!!!! I arrived shortly after you called the courtesy line maybe 45 seconds and there was nobody outside. The people that were out on there porches heard nothing. Do not make slanderous comments about the complex without proof.

For anyone else that wants to know about any security issues at the complex you can contact me thru the leasing office, I am Officer Fast with the Atlanta Police Department. There has not been any serious crime in the complex for almost 6 months now and I have crime stats to back that up. So if you want to be naive and believe these fraudulent comments that are made by persons that just want to start gossip go ahead, but if you want to know the truth I will be happy to talk to you.

  • This message is to Gary. Are the racial comments really necessary, you should be ashamed of yourself! The reason for all the Police Presence is because of a false report of a crime to me on Sunday night. You have no reason to fear for your life. If you have any concerns you can contact me thru the leasing office. The management group has done a wonderful job of assisting me in cleaning the property up. I have been here almost two years now. I came in with this management group. Since I have been here I have put over 40 people in jail on this property and the management group has evicted every one of them. So they are not turning a blind eye. They are working on the problem along with myself and my Atlanta Police Brothers and Sisters.

This message is for all the residents of the complex. If you are concerned about this property then you should get with your neighbors all over the complex and get a consensus of whether you want to form a neighborhood watch that you all are willing to be a part of. If you all agree I can work on setting one up.

  • This message is to the police officer apd officer who claims crime is not a problem here. Is it so? My friend's apartment was broken into while he was in the shower and 2 laptops were stolen in minutes. Since you claim to have all crime stats you should already be aware of this because several complaints about the crime were filed by the 2 tenants whose laptops were stolen from theie apartment.

If guns and murder are the only crimes you see here, try living here. There are tens of neighbors all over who play loud music and many of them do it all night. We have called the 'courtesy officer" hotline but that never helped. I earnestly suggest to you that such requests be taken seriously.

I have read other posts here and I agree with them. I have seen tenants smoking in the lobY SO MANY times, you don't consider it a crime anymore?

In August someone had thrown 2 full trash bags in the elavator. Since you have crime stats you should already know about it. Either that, or only life threatening crimes are reported to you.

Are you aware that the lamp controlled by management is broken for 2 months and after we made more than 7 calls ( we talked to Tasha, Jennifer several times about this on the phone), it continues to be pitch black outide building C. Just figure out for yourself. The management cannot even fix a lamp for 2 months and they're talking about crime prevention.

Please bear in mind that many petty crimes like littering and smoking in the corridors, playing extreme loud music etc. are reported to management. You should seriosuly have a talk with the manager. Have you seen the elevator in building C? Just walk in on a weekend and see for yourself.

By the way, you claim to have all the crime stats? Do you have the stats on the Georgia State University lady student who was mugged at knife point in summer this year? This occured in the stairs of building A and a police report as well as a complaint with the manager was filed. The student had to give her purse to the mugger.

This is even as the entrance gate to the property remains open, taligating goes on every few seconds. Have you even walked through the stairs or thee buildings? You will see weed all over, half smoked. We hear hustlers dealing all the time in building D. Are these crime stats recorded with you??

We are reporting to you ACTUAL crimes that have happened here in the past few months. We are aware that there is a courtesy police officer on property and that is definitely reassuring but in spite of that, some tenants continue to be miserable to others.

Less than 5% of the tenants make life hell for others. We all seek safety and peace here as anyone would but the bad tenants continue to behave this way (what we mentioned above ) because they are not caught yet. The management should consider better serveillance in this area, esp in the stairs, corridors and elevators. It all looks rosy during the week and during the day. But most problematic episodes occur at night and in the weekends (the mugging in building A occured in the stairs in broad daylight though).

As a fellow tenant, I sincerely request you to look into the matter seriously. We appreciate all the help you have given us so far and look forward to more action from the management. This blog has attracted more tenants than we expected and as you can see many of them are sharing incidences that wer were not aware of so let's make this a joint effort to drive the bad tenants out.

    Thanks
    Jim

  • Thanks for creating this blog. It was about time someone documented what goes on in this property. I must say that I have hear bullet shots in the air at least 3-4 times since I moved here in March. It sounds like someone is shooting in the air from an apartment/patio. I wasn't home on New Year's so can't say what it was.

Note to police officer on property: Thanks for your comment. Our biggest concern is that coming home late at night is very unsafe because there are always some beer drinking guys standing outside building E in the parking lot. I saw one throw a bottle and break it on the road. They lurk around as late at 3:30 am when I came home once Its simply scary. Can the management do something about it?
    Thanks

  • I was requested to make some comments here since I lived in these apartments till Oct 2006. I agree that some comments sound racist. I happen to be from Finland and have many African American friends that I hang out with me. Its not proper to judge a race but individuals should be judged. Having said that, in my w years at this place (it used to be called Summit at Lenox), I have myself encountered some of the problems posted here and 9 times out of 10 the loud noised neighbors or the potheads smoking in the lobbies were Blacks. This is a fact not an opinion. From my obsevations, I suspect that many of these "culprits" were friends of tenants living there since many of these activities occured when there were late night parties and during late hours when gangs of 5-7 men hung outisde my patio. Since my patio faced the parking lot I could hear them talk loudly and yell till late in the night. I have seen hundreds of civilized and orderly Black people living here on the other hand. It seems that this place has earned a reputation of "anything goes" so the troublesome tenants keep doing it again and again. The management should get strict about such deeds. I have lived in many apartments and have never seen so much loud music. One of our ex-neighbors actually brought a music system out on his patio and played it so the whole building could hear it. After 2 frustrating years, I quit it in August and moved North. For some reason, they never fixed the entrance gates. Many times the elevator broke and I and my roommates had to walk through stinky stairs that stunk more than the garbage room. No fond memories there. I hope somebody buys this property and turns it around.

  • I was looking for a news story about the gun shots and found this blog. I too heard the gun shots around 12:20 am on New year's night. Its not the first time. About once a month or so, we hear firing shots. I suspect its some weird guy flaunting his gun and shooting in the air but I can be sure there were gun shots. Its likely that the person was doing it from inside an apartment from a window from the balcony cos he wasn't out there when they came in. Before this the last time I heard them was about 5-6 weeks ago. My boyfriend woke me up and I heard them too. They should have a no gun policy on the property.

  • I am in recovery from substance abuse, but I still face discrimination because of my addiction history. Does any law protect me?

Yes. Federal civil rights laws prohibit discrimination in many areas of life against qualified “individuals with disabilities.” Many people with past and current alcohol problems and past drug use disorders, including those in treatment for these illnesses, are protected from discrimination by:

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
    The Rehabilitation Act of 1973
The Fair Housing Act (FHA) and
    The Workforce Investment Act (WIA).

  • It is now 2011. I live at the Metropolitan apartment complex. My apartment is clean and completely roach free. There is no trash in the hallways in the building I live in. My apartmet has a brand new refrigerator and oven. My neighbors are White American, African, African, African American Mexican, and people who appear to be from Eastern European countries. I have not had any problem with gunshots or serious crime. The only problems were with unsupervised and undisiplined children running through the hallways and pulling the fire alarm. The other problem was with the management leasing apartments to prostitutes who would bring their customers to their apartments and to cars in the parking lot. The families of the children who pulled the fire alarms were evicted. One of the prostitutes was arrested and later evicted. The other two prostitutes also moved out. And for the record, the wild children, the prostitutes, and their male customers were not Black or African American. The children were Mexican. The prostitutes and their customers were White. There was only a small percentage of trouble makers on the property. The majority of residents are law abiding citizens of all racial backgrounds. And for the bloggers who have so much disgust for non white blue collar workers. Heaven forbid you lose your job during this recession and have to move into an apartment building where you must live next door to the ethnic masses you seem to have so much hatred for.
